School safety tips & the master combo challenge

Well, we are just days away from our (my daughter Jade’s) first day at 5th grade..  Gee, I can’t believe it’s already here. Her first year in Jr. High School. 1st year with a Locker, they have a built in lock with key combination, thank goodness she has a photographic memory (for things she WANTS to remember that is).  Tomorrow we find out where her locker is and if she has to share one with someone else, which makes ME a bit nervous. SHE isn’t nervous though, because she is WAY too trusting.

I have been teaching her since she was a baby, to be polite but don’t just “trust” people. People are Honest and trusting for the most part, but even in hard times people have weak points, because people can be selfish and greedy when it comes to things they want but can’t afford for themselves, especially if they feel it’s being waved in front of their faces and left un attended.

SafeSpaceLockSo, today I would like to touch base on Safety, but not just of our personal (or Person “our body”) but of our personal property too.. such as our school supplies that we (the parents) worked so hard to earn the money to spend on (that we bought) NOT to just have some one’s kid Steel it from OUR kid. Which seems to happen every year all around the world.  We have to teach our kids how to avoid this and keep it from happening to them.  That’s where Master Lock® comes in.   Now a day’s  it’s not just pencils, papers and notebooks that need protecting inside those lockers. It’s I-pads, lap top computers, mini laptops, I-Pods, cell phones and other high tech expensive gadgets.

So I began reminding my daughter of the basics, Set up a routine for each day, as soon as she gets home from school she take a time out, sits to eat a snack and chills out to let me know how her day went usually its to run down on the gossip and complain about her homework.. We have downtime for an hour, then she works on home work while it’s still fresh in her head about what she needs to do, but usually if there are any issues we deal with them within an hour of getting out of school this way I can still contact the school THAT day as to ensure it’s being handled right away.

Then we discuss the usual.  Don’t talk to strangers, never get in the car with a stranger, we labeled all of her supplies with NON removable stickers, I gave here the speech about NOT leaving her valuable in classrooms and how to dial 911 or to locate a trusted neighbors house if need be… ect. ect.

Now, Master Lock® invites you to take “The Master Combo Challenge,” an interactive game on the company’s Facebook page. By playing, students & their parents can discover tips on how to stay safe at school as well as the best products that will keep their belongings safe & secure. While there, you can also enter for a chance to win back-to-campus-themed prizes, including the new Set-Your-Own Combination SafeSpace™ Laptop Computer Lock.

Disclosure: By posting this information, I’m entered to win a Master Lock back-to-school prize pack as a member of the Mom Bloggers Club.
