Healthy Mozzarella sticks – Home made

Ingredients:
-
1 lb uncut (non shredded) mozzarella block (high quality low cal, or low fat) – cut into little 2” long by 1/2” x 1/2” thick strips, set aside
-
approx 1/2 – 1 cup Vegetable or Canola oil (prefer canola)
*Wet breading egg wash* – mix together and set aside
-
1 egg scrambled up in a bowl
-
1/2 cup milk
*Dry breading* mix together and set aside
-
1/8 cup Flax seed flour
-
1/2 cup corn starch
-
1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
-
1/4 cup whole wheat flour
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
1 tsp onion powder
-
1 tsp parsley
Directions:

In a fry pan, heat up oil (about 1” from bottom of pan, may need more or less than called for above). Oil is ready when you drop a little flour into the oil and it sizzles and bubbles up

dredge mozzarella sticks into dry breading mix, then into egg wash, then dip into dry floured breading once again. Place one at a time into oil. Depending on the size of your pan you can probably cook up to 5 – 8 sticks at once

turn sticks often to allow each side to get golden brown, then drain onto paper towels

Serve HOT with a side of my fav: cold ranch dressing or cold Marinara sauce for a super yummy snack hat NO kid will resist.
